What we collect

Account information. A username and a password. Adult and teacher accounts also have an email address — either one you give us, or the email address and name Google shares with us if you sign in with Google. Student accounts have no email; a grown-up’s email may optionally be added to a student account for password resets only. Passwords are handled by Amazon Cognito and are never visible to us.

Profile information. A display name, and optionally an avatar image and a short bio, if you choose to add them. Usernames, handles, and display names are automatically screened for profanity before they can be used.

Game content. The drawings you submit, their titles, the day each was drawn, the votes you cast and receive, and any content reports you file.

Technical information collected automatically. Like any website, our content delivery network records a standard web access log for each request: your IP address, the page or file requested, the response status, the referring page, and your browser type and version. Our application servers also write short-lived operational logs. We use these only to run the service, keep it secure, debug problems, and investigate abuse. We do not use them to build a profile of you.

What we do not collect

Squigglin has no analytics package, no advertising SDK, and no third-party trackers. We do not track you across other apps or websites, we do not build advertising profiles, and we do not sell, rent, or share your information with data brokers or advertisers.

How we use it

To run the game: to sign you in, to show your drawings to other players, to count votes, to build the daily leaderboard and the Hall of Fame, to operate moderation and the report queue, to keep the service secure, and to contact you about your account if we need to.

What other people can see

Squigglin is a public game. Your drawings, their titles, your display name, your avatar, your bio, and your badges are visible to anyone using the service. Your email address, and any grown-up’s email on a student account, are never shown to other players.

Where it is stored

On Amazon Web Services, in their US East (Ohio) region, in the United States. Squigglin is operated from the United States and intended for users there. If you use Squigglin from outside the United States, your information is transferred to and stored in the United States.

How long we keep it, and how to delete it

Account and profile information is kept for as long as your account exists. Drawings are kept so the leaderboard and Hall of Fame stay accurate over time. Content delivery network access logs are automatically deleted after 30 days; application logs after 14 days.

You can delete your account at any time from your profile screen in the app. Doing so permanently removes your account, your login, your profile and handle, every drawing you have made, and the votes you have cast. This cannot be undone. Reports you filed about other content are kept as part of our moderation record, and votes other players cast on your drawings are kept so their daily vote budgets stay correct — neither identifies you once your account is gone. Students and children

Squigglin is used in classrooms. The student account path collects no email address and no personal information beyond a username, a password, and the drawings and votes that are the game itself.

Squigglin is not directed to children under 13 for use outside of school. Where Squigglin is used with students under 13 in an educational setting, we rely on the school or teacher to provide consent on behalf of parents, as permitted under the U.S. Children’s Online Privacy Protection Act (COPPA). Schools and teachers are responsible for complying with COPPA and any applicable state student-privacy laws, including providing required notice to parents. We use student data only to provide the game to the school and never for advertising or to build profiles.

A parent, guardian, teacher, or school may ask us to review, delete, or stop the further collection of a student’s information by contacting us at the address below. If you believe a child under 13 has created an account outside of a school context, contact us and we will remove it.

Your rights in the EU and UK

If you are in the European Economic Area or the United Kingdom, you have the right to access the personal data we hold about you, to correct it, to delete it, to receive a copy in a portable format, to object to or restrict certain processing, and to lodge a complaint with your local data protection authority. We process account and game data to provide the service you asked for (performance of a contract) and process security and abuse logs on the basis of our legitimate interest in keeping the service safe. Your rights in California

If you are a California resident, you have the right to know what categories of personal information we collect (identifiers such as a username and, for adult accounts, an email address; user-generated content; and internet activity such as the access logs described above), the right to request access to and deletion of that information, and the right not to be discriminated against for exercising these rights. We do not sell or share your personal information, and we do not process it for cross-context behavioral advertising. To make a request, contact us at the address below.

Changes to this policy

If this policy changes in a way that matters, we will update the effective date above and, where appropriate, tell you in the app.
